Henry Cruz |
Hello everyone!
My name is Henry Cruz and I am currently a student at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. I am majoring in Criminal Justice while minoring in Public Administration and Psychology. I was born and raised in The Bronx and come from a Mexican heritage. Before John Jay, I discovered my passion for Criminal Justice at Bronx Community College where I earned my associates degree. It has been an amazing journey for me, especially because it has helped me grow out of my comfort zone. I am a first generation college student and I am right behind my brother and sister who discovered their career with New York’s Department of Education. Although they decided to become teachers, my goal is to work within law enforcement. I discovered my passion for law enforcement in high school when I saw how much of a difference they make in communities and how much of an impact they leave on people. Specifically, my goal is to become an NYPD Detective and in the long run, become a Criminal Justice professor. Every Criminal Justice professor I’ve had contributed to the desire and respect I have for the field. I believe Criminal Justice is relatable in every way possible, from international issues across the world to local issues within our own country. One thing I am obsessed with is cars! Especially class ones. They fascinate me the most because I sometimes discover how fast they can be despite being underestimated. One of my favorite things to do outside of school is to play basketball and go jogging. I was always surrounded by the sport since I was a child. My three brothers always pushed me to become competitive both on and off the court in a respectful way. The competitive drive basketball gave me influenced me to participate in a small track team in high school that was sponsored by the New York Young Runners Organization. I grew a strong love for running which I would find myself doing every day. It clears my mind and gives me a sense of isolation from the world and myself. To me, I would say I race through life on my own speed limit. Anything that comes my way I learn to adjust to it knowing eventually it will pass. I enjoy being physically active and anything to do with running such as jogging or racing gives me a sense of peace. Thank you for taking the time for reading about my interests and dreams.
