Hi! My name is Amerra Bukhari. I am a Junior at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, majoring in English and double minoring in Gender Studies and Philosophy. I was born in Peshawar, Pakistan and immigrated here when I was 7 years old and currently residing in Staten Island, New York.
I transferred to John Jay from College of Staten Island in Fall 2015. I am thrilled to be studying in this college because I have met a lot of great people and got to know them personally. This school has helped me find numerous opportunities to prepare me for law school. I plan to attend law school in Fall 2018, I am still undecided about what type of law I want to practice... |

My name is Kevin Tran. I am currently a junior at John Jay College of Criminal Justice currently majoring in Forensic Psychology and minoring in Anthropology, Class of 2018.
I am a native New Yorker, born and raised in the Bronx. My family is from South Vietnam and found refuge in the United States during the Vietnam War. College has been a different experience for me and something that still amazes me to this day. My goal after college is to help children with mental illness disorders, as well as the children in our Youth Detention Centers... "I write to say what I cannot speak."

Katherine Santana |
My name is Katherine Santana, I am a first generation Dominican American and currently majoring in Forensic Psychology as well as minoring in Anthropology at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. One of the many things I enjoy in life is music, I am always listening to music wherever I go, in many ways it mellows me out. I know that when I need a good moment for myself I can just reach for my iPod and play some music. Sometimes I get so into it that I begin to sing out loud. I also enjoy reading and writing. I enjoy a good reading that has emotion and makes me think.
My mind is always buzzing which is why I love writing. It helps me sort out everything I'm thinking about, from basic opinions to questions. My mind wanders constantly and it can happen from simply watching a program or walking around. My writings will usually be based on anything, it can range from world issues to something as simple as food. |
My name is Erick Garcia. I graduated from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and earned my Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice in 2014, after which I applied for and was successfully accepted into John Jay's Forensic Psychology graduate program in the Spring of 2016.
Originally I am from Long Beach, California, where I was born, but I was raised on Long Island, New York, where I currently live with my family in Floral Park, located in Nassau County. Ever since I transferred to John Jay as a Junior undergraduate student, I fell in love with this campus and the people in it. While my major as an undergraduate was Criminal Justice and even though now my major in graduate school is Forensic Psychology, that never deterred me from taking anthropology and philosophy based courses which is where I was able to expand my knowledge of the world around me and of the people that inhabit it. Taking these courses allowed me to see the deeper and sometimes hidden meaning in things. |

My name is Nelson, 26. I graduated John Jay in 2015 with a bachelors in Criminal Justice and currently pursuing a master’s degree in Forensic Psychology. I wish I could tell you what to expect, but I can't. My writings will take you on a journey (more like a roller coaster) inside my life. One month you may get a serious topic, the other a completely different one. Before my passion for criminal justice there was a love for Journalism, a love that endured all four years of high school. With "A Home @ the End of the World" I plan on returning to my roots and refuel my interest in writing. I may not be writing here for long, but as with life, I will enjoy the moment and see where it takes me.

Giselle Ramirez |
My name is Giselle Ramirez. I’m currently a Forensic Psychology major and graduating in June 2018. I’m a first generation college student, so there’s a bit of pressure there, but my family is supportive most of the time. I came to John Jay in August 2015 with an Associate's Degree from my high school, which sounded pretty cool back in 9th grade. However, down the road it became clear that the faster I graduated college, the faster I would be thrown into adulthood, so I decided to take it slow. Weirdly enough I love school and shopping for school supplies are what I live for every fall semester, so it worked out!
Aside from the reality of adulthood, being so ahead of the game also meant not being able to join many clubs or even start a minor because I was too late and had to get started on joining research teams instead. I’m hoping that with this opportunity at the Zine... |
Hello everyone!

I was born and raised in The Bronx and come from a Mexican heritage. Before John Jay, I discovered my passion for Criminal Justice at Bronx Community College where I earned my associates degree. It has been an amazing journey for me, especially because it has helped me grow out of my comfort zone. I am a first generation college student and I am right behind my brother and sister who discovered their career with New York’s Department of Education. Although they decided to become teachers, my goal is to work within law enforcement... |
